Indian Railways has various Classes/ types of trains. These trains are classified according to their class, avg speed and the routes they traverse.
PASSENGER TRAINS
1. Train 18: Semi-high-speed train, Air-conditioned day time journey train with facilities such as Wi-Fi, snack tables,
CCTV cameras, hydraulic-pressure doors and a fire and smoke detection and extinguishing system.
First Loco-less train-set made in India.
2. Gatimaan Express: Semi-high-speed train, sitting, air-conditioned running a top speed of 160 km/h.
3. Tejas Express: Semi-high-speed, air-conditioned train. Coaches have bio-vacuum toilets, water-level indicators,
tap sensors, hand dryers, integrated Braille displays, an LED TV for each passenger with a phone jack, local
cuisine, Wi-Fi, tea and coffee vending machines, magazines, snack tables,CCTV cameras and a fire and smoke
detection and extinguishing system.
4. Rajdhani Express: Limited stops air-conditioned trains linking state capital to New Delhi.
5. Shatabdi Express: Air-conditioned, only sitting arrangements intercity trains for daytime travel.
5. Duronto Express: Non-stop (except for technical halts)
7. Humsafar Express: Air-conditioned, Only three-tier coach trains with LED screens displaying information about
stations and train speed, vending machines for tea and coffee, charging ports for electronic devices, bio-toilets,
smoke alarms, CCTV cameras, curtains and heating and refrigeration facilities for food.
8. AC Express: Fully Air-conditioned with limited stops.
9. Double Decker Express: Double Deck trains for Day time travel.
10. Uday Express: Double Deck trains for Night travels.
11. Garibh Rath Express: Air conditioned, Economy 3 Tiers train
12. Yuva Express: Air-conditioned train mainly for the youths of the country.
13. Jan Shatabdi Express: Economical version of Shatabdi Express.
14. Sampark Kranti Express: Superfast train service to New Delhi.
15. Kavi Guru Express: Superfast trains Introduced in honor of Rabindranath Tagore.
16. Rajya Rani Express: Trains to connect state capitals with other cities important for tourism, pilgrimage or business.
17. Vivek Express: Introduced to commemorate the 150th birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.
18. Mahamana Express: Model Rakes modified by Indian Railways.
19. Intercity Express: Superfast trains which connects major railway junctions and state capitals.
20. Antyodaya Express: Unreserved Superfast trains with LHB coaches.
21. Jan Sadharan Express: Unreserved trains on major routes.
22. Suvidha Express: Superfast trains with Dynamic pricing concept on reservation.
23. Superfast Express: Trains with with top speed of 110 km/h with limited stoppages.
24. Mail: Earlier these trains had dedicated coaches to carry postal mails now they are carried in luggage coach.
25. Express: Trains with top speed of 110 Km/h with less stoppages.
26. Passenger: Unreserved coaches with stoppages at almost all the stations on route.
27. MEMU (Mainline Electric Multiple Units) & DEMU (Diesel Electric Multiple Units): Unreserved trains connecting short and medium distances routes.

2. Monorails: Currently running only in Mumbai. Mahrashtra

1. Maharajas Express: Includes Deluxe cabin, Junior suite, Suite and Presidential suite with lounge & restaurants.
Covers more than 12 destinations across North-West and Central India mainly centered on Rajasthan.
2. Palace on Wheels: Deluxe cabins with attached bathrooms, a personal butler, amenities that include
2 restaurants, a lounge bar and a spa. Mainly for Rajasthan tourism.
3. Golden Chariot: Mainly centered to South India tourism. It has Saloons, restaurants, SPA and GYM facilty
in the coaches.
4. Royal Rajasthan on Wheels: More Luxury version of Palace on Wheels
5. Deccan Odyssey: It has facilities of presidential suites, Multi-cuisine restaurant, lounge, conference car,
internet connectivity, bar and health spa. Centered to Maharashtra and Gujarat.
